Lighting Up The Kitchen With Track Lighting

There are many different lighting styles on the market and sometimes choosing to seem to be almost impossible, especially when you are looking at all the many different types of track lighting fixture now available. However, although the choice may seem difficult by following a few simple rules it is possible to find the fixture that is perfect for your particular style. This article will take a look at some of the considerations to bear in mind before making a final choice.

One of the main places to track lighting will be used is in the kitchen, and when you come to look at kitchen track lighting designs you will find many of them use halogen bulbs simply because the kitchen will often need spotlights in order to produce enough illumination. This is especially true when you need extra lighting on a worktop and where you will carry out food preparation. The track lights can be fixed upon the ceiling or on the wall, and it is usually a good idea to try to find multidirectional track lighting since this will give far more flexibility overall.

It is also a good idea to go for the multidirectional choice when looking at track lighting fixtures for the living room. It is often the case that certain elements will need to be highlighted while others should be kept in shadow and having the flexibility to change the lighting direction is important. The other major choice is between modern and traditional or antique track lighting, with the modern style usually using brushed steel or chrome for the track matarial, while antique track lighting often uses bronze or copper colored metal. There are many reproduction light fixtures now available, with pendant lighting and the monorail type being popular choices.

These can use low voltage halogen lights, or low voltage LED lights which can be used to add atmosphere to places such as the bedroom or lounge, where relaxation is key. Cable lighting with the track style is also possible, giving a modern touch, while for the vintage appearence the hanging pendant light, perhaps with crystal or glass chandelier, is an optimum choice. Even though chosen in the antique style, contemporary lighting fixtures are really being chosen, and as long as it is not a true antique the prices can be fairly reasonable.

For a contemporary track light, look at the semi flush mount lighting system from Modern Track Lights, a track light available in nickel or bronze, and is adjustable, using a flourescent bulb. It is also UL standard and can be used in damp conditions. Also consider the Alpha Trak Flair system from Progress Lighting, a white track light rail that uses a 250-watt PAR-38 bulb. Also from Progress Lighting is the Illuma-Flex low voltage pendant, a minini pendant light using a low voltage 12V electricity supply. It has colored glass and is finished in bronze and nickel and has lamp shades in red, blue and white. There is also the 5-light track-light from Quoizel, part of the Pacifica range, a 10.5 inch high polished chrome 50W track light using halogen bulbs.

One area where care needs to be taken is when choosing bathroom track lighting, since lighting suitable for the bathroom will need to be able to deal with damp conditions. Monorail track lighting can be a good choice for this area, again using halogen bulbs with the multidirectional swivel. But for the antique styled bathroom there are many rustic lighting fixtures available, including ones that use fluorescent lighting that can be fitted in with a bathroom vanity.

Take time to look at all the various track lighting styles, paying attention to the overall decoration of the room before making your choice. Once this is done take time to do some research online to look at the various consumer reviews can be found, and make sure you choose a supplier that has great quality service and an excellent product line.
